Today there are twenty (20) Community Action Agencies in the State of Georgia, comprising a human service network capable of serving all 159 counties in the State. The Federal, State and local resources currently managed by Community Action Agencies in Georgia include such services as Head Start, employability services, emergency assistance, transportation, home weatherization, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and case management. Georgia Stats
Georgia covers 57,906 square miles, with a 2009 estimated population of 9,497,667 people – with 1,809,097 people living in rural Georgia (USDA-ERS).
Atlanta is the state capital. The state’s largest cities are Atlanta, Augusta, and Columbus.
According to the 2005 Census, 66.1% of the state’s population is white, 29.8% is Black/African-American, and 7.1% is of Hispanic/Latino origin.
There are 144 hospitals in Georgia, 67 of which are located in rural areas (North Carolina Rural Health Research and Policy Analysis Center, 2007). Eighteen percent of Georgia residents lack any health insurance (Kaiser, 2004-2005).

In 2009, Community Action Agencies across this nation reduced or eliminated 34.3 million conditions of poverty, as measured by outcomes such as gaining employment, building assets and improving child development. The arms of these anti poverty agencies reached 99% of our nation's counties.
Over 20 million Americans, including nearly 5 million children, over 2 million seniors and 1.7 million with disabilities, received services from Community Action
